Cinque Terre

It's the high season in Cinque Terre, Italy. It's hot, crowded and the humidity is so high it creates a bad hair day, even for me. Forget about the crowds and the heat, let's talk about the food.

We ended up in Monterosso and we were ready for seafood...and in Cinque Terre that's what they do best. Side note; Cinque Terre is made up of 5 separate seaside fishing/wine making villages built on the rocky mountains sides and valleys leading down to the sea.

I scoped out a couple of restaurants while everyone else was shopping and I chose Il Casello. Jane and I ate there 4 years ago and the food was really, really good, so I thought we'd give another go...another good reason was, we wanted to go to the beach and the resaurant is right on the water. What's not to like about that huh?

Il Casello is family run and has been in operation for a long, long time, the present owners have had it for the last 26 years. The service is very good and friendly.

Fried anchovies Ligurian style..basically fried pickled anchovies. Really good!

Just caught fresh seafood salad

Seafood filled raviolis in a light wine and tomato sauce with baby zucchini. Out if this world!!

By far the best dish in Cinque Terre. Spaghetti frutti di mare...mussels, shrimp, clams, langostines, garlic, tomatoes in the best tasting seafood stock I've ever tasted....screamingly fresh!!
